Our horticultural business operates a large nursery in Martock, Yeovil growing £3 million of garden plants. We seek an experienced HGV 2 driver with a flexible attitude to workload and responsibilities to deliver our garden plants to our four garden centres in Devon.

Applicants would need to have good reliable transport (Car Driver) as our nursery is on the outskirts of Yeovil and there is limited public transport


Details of this role:

1. 5 day rota covering mainly Monday to Saturday but at peak trading times during the spring Weekends / bank holidays would be required.

2. 35 hours to 45 hours per week – early starts may be required during peak season when driving / delivering

Our Somerset located Horticultural business is looking to recruit an experienced Hardy Nursery Stock Grower / Bedding Plant Grower. Our 14 ace nursery is located near Martock, Yeovil.


The role involves assisting the nursery management team as follows:

• Taking responsibility for all nursery growing issues including watering, spraying, spacing, pinching and general plant care issues

• You will be part of a two person team and full initial nursery training can be provided to applicants with proven horticultural experience and ability

• You will be leading a team carrying out all plant health / care issues and you will need to be hands on and able to train / manage members of your team to achieve high quality garden plants suitable for retail at our garden centres

HR/ Compliance & Retail Operations Support Administrator – £13 to £15 per hour – Newton Abbot Based

Our Devon based horticultural garden centre business operates a large nursery in Newton Abbot growing £3 million of garden plants for sale through our own garden centres. We are looking to expand our head office management team by appointing a new HR manager/Compliance & Health and Safety Administrator. This new appointment would be fully trained and supported by our head office team so the following responsibilities could be dealt with:


1. Staff Recruitment – Assisting the managing director by setting up interviews, placing job adverts and coming up with innovative ways of finding the best recruits.

2. Staff training – Ensuring all staff are being trained in basic health and safety procedures, following up paperwork, identifying staff who may be able to train to take on more responsibilities.

3. Weekly staff management – Helping the retail operations team with rotas and managing the wage budget, including managing our clocking in/out systems and running the holiday rota.

4. Maintain employee records and ensure records are kept in good order.

5. Organise a variety of staff events and team-building activities.

6. Business Compliance and Legal issues in relation to employees, third parties and Government legislation.

7. Health and Safety and Compliance administration across all our horticultural nurseries

Horticultural Specialist Customer Advisor – Newton Abbot Based Garden Centre – £23,000 to £27,000

Ideally, we are seeking people who have a wide range of horticultural knowledge who can assist customers on the shop floor with their purchases and advise as needed.


Applicants will need good previous experience with growing your own food, bedding plant knowledge and be able to advise on shrubs / hedging / etc.


You may have worked as an allotment gardener, market gardener, nursery grower, landscape gardener, or just have a great knowledge of garden plants and garden products. Knowledge of gardening and being able to help customers buy the correct products is essential.


Obviously, we are looking for people with positive, friendly personalities who enjoy customer interaction. The purpose of the role would be to increase the average customer spend on the shop floor each day and locate high spending customers who require attention and assistance with advice. Applicants need a commercial mind and understand the role they have is to increase customer spend.


If successful at the interview stage, we would need to initially assess your ability in the role on the shop floor so starting pay will be at a lower level for a short agreed period until you have proved yourself but quickly progresses to £11 to £13 per hour once we are confident that you have the skills and attitude needed.


The role would suit experienced people with great soft skills and the successful applicants could work either part time or full time between 10am to 4.30pm each day on a rota basis Monday to Sunday. Weekend working will be required as will bank holidays in peak trading periods.

Warehouse Supervisor – Newton Abbot Based – £26,000 to £31,000

This is an hourly paid role which starts at a lower level and progresses quickly to £12 to £14 per hour. Successful management applicants would earn between £26k to £31k per year including bonus payments within 12 months. In the first 3 to 6 months you would be able to graduate to this level of remuneration based on a successful training and probation period. We can offer excellent training and are seeking candidates who want to progress their pay quickly over a 6 month period and who are able to take the responsibility for running a retail store.


The successful applicants will work closely with the warehouse management team and our head office buying team and receive full training and guidance on warehouse management and staff management. We can teach you how to do the job but you must have lots of energy, commitment and enthusiasm to be successful.


Ideally, we are seeking experienced warehouse managers / supervisors who have previous experience of using forklifts, checking in deliveries, handling paperwork, have good office admin skills regarding communication of admin to our office, and are able to manage staff effectively in the picking and pricing of our products. We are seeking managers who are physically fit and able to lead a team of 6 to 8 staff. If you have lots of common sense and enjoy working in a busy warehouse environment then we would like to meet and discuss the role with you.


Working hours would reflect your commitment to run a busy warehouse supplying products to a garden centre chain of stores. Garden Centre Management Trainee – Newton Abbot Plants Galore – £25,000 to £35,000

Our company is rapidly expanding our retail garden stores across Devon / Somerset. We are now the number one garden plant grower and retailer in the Westcountry region.


We can offer new recruits on to our management training program fast track progression to senior store management positions within 3 to 12 months depending on ability, commitment, and attitude. Our trainee management scheme is ideal for applicants who have previous retail / supermarket (maybe even horticultural) experience and understand the significant effort and commitment required to run a successful retail garden store. Applicants would immediately join our retail teams as a trainee manager and be fast tracked in each department across the store until they were fully trained and able to become either an assistant manager or store manager. Our company plans to continue to open new stores in the next five years and we need to find, train and progress talented young managers to key positions as they become available.


All trainee managers would work alongside our experienced and dedicated head office retail operations management team and you would receive full garden retail training and guidance on all store duties, procedures, and policies, be involved in organsing store layout and taught how to handle staff management. Ideally, we are seeking people who have a wide range of horticultural knowledge who can assist customers on the shop floor with their purchases and advise as needed.


Applicants will need good previous experience with growing your own food, bedding plant knowledge and be able to advise on shrubs / hedging / etc.


You may have worked as an allotment gardener, market gardener, nursery grower, landscape gardener, or just have a great knowledge of garden plants and garden products. Knowledge of gardening and being able to help customers buy the correct products is essential.


Obviously, we are looking for people with positive, friendly personalities who enjoy customer interaction. The purpose of the role would be to increase the average customer spend on the shop floor each day and locate high spending customers who require attention and assistance with advice. If successful at the interview stage, we would need to initially assess your ability in the role on the shop floor so starting pay will be at a lower level for a short agreed period until you have proved yourself but quickly progresses to £11 to £13 per hour once we are confident that you have the skills and attitude needed.

If successful at the interview stage, we would need to initially assess your ability in the role on the shop floor so starting pay will be at a lower level for a short agreed period until you have proved yourself but quickly progresses to £11 to £13 per hour once we are confident that you have the skills and attitude needed.


The role would suit experienced people with great soft skills and the successful applicants could work either part time or full time between 10am to 4.30pm each day on a rota basis Monday to Sunday. Weekend working will be required as will bank holidays in peak trading periods.

Details of this Role

Garden Centre Management Trainee – Exeter Plants Galore – £25,000 to £35,000

Our company is rapidly expanding our retail garden stores across Devon / Somerset. We are now the number one garden plant grower and retailer in the Westcountry region.

We can offer new recruits on to our management training program fast track progression to senior store management positions within 3 to 12 months depending on ability, commitment, and attitude. Our trainee management scheme is ideal for applicants who have previous retail / supermarket (maybe even horticultural) experience and understand the significant effort and commitment required to run a successful retail garden store. Applicants would immediately join our retail teams as a trainee manager and be fast tracked in each department across the store until they were fully trained and able to become either an assistant manager or store manager. Our company plans to continue to open new stores in the next five years and we need to find, train and progress talented young managers to key positions as they become available.

All trainee managers would work alongside our experienced and dedicated head office retail operations management team and you would receive full garden retail training and guidance on all store duties, procedures, and policies, be involved in organising store layout and taught how to handle staff management. Our team of managers can teach you how to do the job but you must have drive, energy, commitment, intelligence and enthusiasm to be successful.

Applicants would need to be physically fit and able to lead a team of 10 to 16 staff when merchandising our stores. Skills that we require for this position:

• This role is physically hard work and you are on your feet all day. You need to enjoy garden plant and garden sundries merchandising, cleaning the store, running departments and payments areas and taking payments and providing customer service.

• Good mental math skills – addition / subtraction / multiplication / etc

• Car Driver / own transport – all our garden centres are on the outskirts of their local town and having a driving license would be helpful for career progression.

• Applicants must have good I.T. skills and enjoy organising office admin / paperwork in good order and have an equally good system for managing daily computer information so that important files / emails / etc can be located effectively.


Details of this Role

• Normal working hours will be 5 full day rota between Monday to Sunday. Weekend and bank holiday working are required. We offer a bonus incentive scheme designed to encourage flexibility and commitment to the company during peak trading months. On occasion our managers work 5/6 days per week.

• Working hours – between 40 and 48 hours on average per week

• Holiday is pro rata based on hours worked – up to 28 days per year

• Pay is negotiable – we can offer younger enthusiastic applicants hourly rates of pay starting from £11/£12 per hour. Experienced managers who can instantly make an impact with good business acumen and experience would be offered £12 to £15 per hour depending on their ability, background and commitment to the company.
